    Re: 60% basialr artery blockage

i had that problem. mine was 60=% blocked when discovered, then with 18 monmths or so creeped up to 90% blocked. i dont believe surgery was ever considered as basilar artery is too deep inside the head. rather an interventional radiologist fixed it by doing angioplasty and putting in a stent. dont know if they will do it at 60% because i dont think it is life threatening at 60 and it is a very risky thing to do deep inside your head. having the stent put in was a very very big deal

i hope they have you on some meds. aggrenox has aspirin in it plus a vaso dilator or plavix or coumadin. altace is suppose to lower the risk for a stroke with this thing too.

    Re: 60% basialr artery blockage

well when mine was discovered i had already had a stroke so i was put on coumadin right away. but altace has shown to reduce the risk by like 50% or so (its a blood pressure med). also have them check your homocysteine level. that is what caused mine to go narrow. i would diffinitly go for a second opinion as this is very serious not something to treat nochalantly as it seems your doc is. consider the agrenox too..contains aspirin (25mg in each pill) plus a vasodilator. it causes a lot of headaches forst 2 weeks you take it though. i just know i was put on a whole slew of meds after my basilar artery was found 60% blocked and still it progressed another 30% in less than 18 months.

    Re: 60% basialr artery blockage

hi, i am new to this site and just wanted to let you know that i suffered from a 100% blockage of the basilar artery in June of 2004 and i am still here!! i suffered few physical problems other then horrible migraines, vertigo ect. i have had many TIA's with very little damage, thank God. i would like to know about others with this condition as i am told the collateral circulation that seems to be the only think keeping be going is extremly fragil and will most likely fail......although no one can tell me what to expect, ha!
