would love to know what type of doc to see for these symptoms...

hello there! i am just going to give you a run-down of my symptoms and would love to know what kind of doctor to see. neurologist, neuropsychologist, etc.

    1. cannot follow through with ideas/thoughts. i have the same daily to-do list as in college. that was 10 years ago!

    2. overwhelmed by lots of information. makes me shut-down.

    3. feel detached from the world.

    4. do not absorb details.

    5. when people speak, it is as if it is foreign language.

    6. what i think is not always what i say or write.

    7. hard to make decisions.

    8. foggy brain. nothing penetrates.

    9. cannot find right words. end up describing.

    10. kind of stutter when talk.

ok, i am a mess. just want to figure out what to do.

i did read that it could be sinuses? my right side has been stuffed up for since when i can remember.

and someone mentioned lyme's disease, but i do not have the bodily symptoms.

who knows. just tired of it.

    thank you for your help!
    kathy

with these types of symptoms i would actually see your primary first as you will also most likely need a referral to whatever specialist you would be seeing anyway.but you also can have some very basic blood work done, like metabolic,in order to make certain that there isn't some sort of actual depletion of certain minerals.chemicals within your body that can affect many body system functions when they are out of range either too low or too high.after that,i really do think just seeing a neurologist first to do a full neuro eval on you may be the next step,he/she can also order some more specific types of tests such as even an MRI on the brain and c spine, which alot of 'head' symptoms can be actually stemming from in some cases.the problem when trying to Dx any actual medical issue is its basically test and rule out til you can hopefully hit on whatever the actual problem is.its alot of playing detective basically.but you should start with the basics at your primary to rule out metabolic physiologic issues and go from there.

this may take some time so try and be patient while this is all going on,i know how much it sucks but time will tell hopefully not too far off for you.good luck and please keep me posted on what you find out,K? marcia

OMG, this is me also, kathryn... years ago (1989) I had an allergist diagnose some food allergies. When I dramatically changed my diet, it was like a black & white change to my brain, immediate improvement. My clue (which finally brought me to an allergiest) was I realized that it was better on days when I didn't get a chance to eat, so I figured it had to be food related.

Unfortunately most of the symptoms came back several years ago; I am now dealing with the fact that my body develops allergies to any foods that I eat regularly. I am trying to follow a rotation diet with limited success, and am also treating myself for systemic Candida using a product called Three-Lac.

So the only thing I can think of is if you can kick yourself through a spring water fast for a day or two, and/or an exotic foods diet (e.g. buffalo meat and mangos, or other weird things you never eat). If that lifts the fog, you might have food allergies. Good luck.

In addition to the above, see if you can go in and get evaluated for learning disabilities. Since you've had these problems most of your life (if sounds like), and most of them revolve around speech and language, I think you should try to get in with a learning specialist or an educational psychologist or someone like that.

First keep a list of your problems, if only to be consistent when seeing the docs, I always forget what's wrong. I tell people I will never remember their names, then most people smile and say they have the same problem, but then I say, yes, but I am one further along than that, not only will I forget your name, but I will forget telling you that.

Re: would love to know what type of doc to see for these symptoms...

The type of symptoms you mention are what's known as 'Cognitive Dysfunction'. I suffer from most of what you mention, because I have Lupus, Fibro, OA, APS, as well as several other related-to-Lupus disorders/syndromes/diseases, and cognitive dysfunction is a big factor in Lupus and Fibro.
BUT...I notice you mention no 'physical symptoms', which if you had one of the above diseases, you would be having physical symptoms before these 'cognitive dysfunction' symptoms. So rather than recommend you see a Rheumy-Rheumatologist-who specialize in those diseases, you should see your primary doc first, who will then suggest, if he/she thinks its necessary, that you see a Neuro, or whatever other specialist he/she thinks is warranted for your symptoms.
Best of luck in your search for answers, hun! I KNOW, only too well, how frustrating those types of symptoms are!!
