PLEASE tell me what you think?

I am at my wits end here...

I'm a 41 yr old female...about 2 months ago, I felt like I was on a boat...went to the MD, he said I had a virus. Gave me antihistamines...didn't get better, refrerred me to ENT...I had pulling/pressure/pain in my rt cheek/ear. No congestion/no stuffy nose. Had a CT scan of the sinuses and saw inflammed turbinates, but no infection.
Referred me to a neuro , just to be sure.

Neuro did an exam, and when he did some Eply ( sp? ) manuver, he said he was pretty sure I had vertigo, sent me home with some exercises, but also sent me for an MRI to be sure.

Had it today, won't know until Monday.

    I'm making myslef crazy...

I keep thinking it's a brain tumor...I'm trying to be smart about this.. it's been 2 months and the symptoms have not gotten any worse...they may even be a little better ( very little, but still better)
There are no other symptoms like weakness. no headache, etc...just that feeling like there is a brick in my cheek, and under my eye..it's like someone is in there pulling from the inside out.

But then I think, I have no drainage, no congestion, not even sneezing so how can it be sinus???

So, I come here, humbly asking for ANY advice or thoughts....it's going to be a LONG weekend....

    Hiya,

I doubt VERY much its a brain tumor, but i do know how you feel, i had an mri on thursday,as i have been having headachs since september 06 and my pupils keep going uneven,i know i have a brain tumor,i just have a feeling,i dont get my results for a week tho. I do know how you feel, im also very anxious and scared....And arnt those mri machines noisy? Yuck,i hated it.

Re: PLEASE tell me what you think?

I too had the same sort of thing. I had a dizzy spell while driving and almost passed out. It felt like the ground was moving when I walked and even when I was sitting still. I went for a balance test and the technician scratched the inside of my ear, giving me a staph infection. The pain want away and then it came back. - no infection or anything and they thought it was trigeminal neuralgia. They put me on antiseizure medication for the pain. After fainting 3 times in 10 minutes due to not eating or sleeping for two days because of the pain, they sent me for an EEG to test for epilepsy. Results were negative.

I saw an ENT, a two neurologists and a neurosurgeon, had a CT scan, an MRI and numerous other pokings and proddings. The final diagnosis was atypical facial pain - the neurosurgeon wanted me to go on Neurontin and get off the heavy duty painkillers I was taking, which were the first things that worked. My family doctor and I decided that the painkillers were allowing me to have a life, addiction was not an issue, so I threw the Neurontin prescription in the garbage.

I still have balance issues and dizzy spells, they worsen from time to time. I did go to physiotherapy for the dizziness and it went away for a while. I've learned to live with it, although it can be very annoying. I am still on the painkillers and the dosage goes up and down. I don't get stoned on them because my body has adjusted to them. I can still drive and everything.

    Good luck, Boo63

Oh my, i wish they would tell us straight away too! ive not been myself at all from all the anxiety! I havent even botherd putting make up on or anything,i used to wear it everyday lol. That face mask thing is very odd indeed, did yours have a mirror on? so you could see them? mine did,i looked at it once but it just made me even more anxious so i had my eyes closed most of the time.

I guess i could call earlier, i had it done on thursday..was thinking of calling monday? God, i am so so scared, i just want to lay in bed all day untill i get the results and know 100% i have what im sure i have.

Thanks for your input...I appreciate everyone's thoughts and support...

Called yesterday and MRI was normal...
    I'm so releived...

I guess I just have to keep practicing the exercises that the MD provided and start to beleive that it is just vertigo...

    Thanks again.
This is an amazing support system.

    Dizzy,
How is your pupil? Just wondering, as I sometimes have the same one sided enlarged pupil.
So glad to hear your mri was normal. Now what?

    jfem4,

You may want to check out the Inner Ear Boards on here, and post your story there, as there are some pretty knowledgeable friends there.

I am usually found on that forum, as I have been dealing with imbalance/vertigo/disequilibrium symptoms for thirteen years.

Sometimes some forms of vertigo can simply not be formally diagnosed. Vertigo symptoms can mimic many kinds of "dizziness" conditions, which is what makes it sometimes hard to find the root cause.

It's normal to worry about things like a brain tumor (for example), but many times the obvious conditions can be determined by (what seems like) simple tests and symptoms that your doctor or specialist looks for.

    Dizzymoo,

You could always calls your primary care doctor, and ask him or her to contact your neuro's office. Or, you can call your neuro's office back and either ask to speak to the Office Manager or the neuro himself.

As for the worrying and being "definitely" sure that you have a brain tumor - #1 you can't be "definitely" sure and #2 your worrying is unproductive and bad karma for yourself!

One of the Number One things that is helpful in dealing with a scary, limiting or painful symptom is how a person copes and reacts to their situation.

EVERYONE dealing with something (and everyone does deal with something) will absolutely have down and frustrating days. But inner strength is important and crucial to a healthy lifestyle.

If you THINK the worse, even if you don't HAVE the worse, you will still be in a darker place than you need to be.

Maybe some counseling would help with that.

Well wishes for a good day.

Re: PLEASE tell me what you think?

    Dizzy,
I'm sorry I confused your post with someone else's. I hope you are able to get some answers this week, and that it is good news. I think all the worrying creates many of the symptoms. I know it does with me. When I am really stressed and worried about things, I notice my pupil gets really big. When I am relaxed most of the time and not thinking about it, it's not there.
Try to think positive thoughts, and be with friends or family. They usually help to distract the wait time. I think calling the nuero this week, would be a good idea. They already know the preliminary result, and like other's said, I think you would have already heard. So try to be positive, as I know it is hard.
I am sending good thoughts your way.
    Take Care
