    Hi Dizzymoo,

I have researched it too. Did your dr. tell you how much of a herniation you have? My MRI results said no significate herniation....based on the research I have done Chairi type 0 is contraversial (sp?) with the drs. I have some of the symptoms...but others as well...I have been trying to find any connection between Chairi and senory seizures.....

    Hi Dizzymoo,

There are four different kinds of Arnold Chiari malformations. Types 2 and 4 are probably not what you have since there are usually fairly significant physical disabilities from birth. Type 3 is really a different animal altogether. So most likely you have type 1.

Type 1 shows up fairly regularly on scans. It is almost a normal variant.

What symptoms are you having? If you are having weakness, esp. in arms and dizziness/balance issues, it could be from the Chiari and surgery might help. On the otherhand, if you symptom is headaches, be very wary about any intervention as the Chiari may be the cause but it may not be related and I would not want to have unneeded surgery.

Again, it also depends on how many millimeters of displacement there is.

I have Chiari I Malformation and had the decompression surgery 3-1-06. What questions do you have about it? How big is your herniation and what symptoms are you having?
