Question Soft upper motor neurone signs

I went to see a neurologist last month and in a letter from him to my doctor, a copy of which was sent to me, he said:

"This gentleman does have some soft upper motor neurone signs and I have therefore arranged for him to have an MRI of his brain and cervical spine."

Does anyone know what "Soft upper motor neurone signs" are?

I had my MRI on the 27th December but have heard nothing so far.

    Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Soft upper motor neurone signs

Upper motor neuron refers to neurons of the brain and spinal cord. There are many signs of dysfunction in this part of the nervous system. Hard signs would include obvious ataxia, paresis, Parkinson like tremors, etc.. Soft signs might include very slight movement disorders, disturbance of balance, questionably abnormal reflexes, etc.. There are many subtle neurologic variations. Many are not indicative of neurologic disease but rather natural deviations from the norm. However, they all must be followed up just in case. Good Luck with this....
