quick wave that feels like I am about to pass out

This sensation comes every so often, no common denomenator as to why. I experience what feels like a quick wave in my brain that feels like I am about to pass out. I had an MRI of my brain a year ago and beyond the usual white matter for a woman my age (60), nothing appeared abnormal. What could this be? Is it an indication of something I should be looking into?

Hi, do you mean you get off balance or dizzy? Or do you start to back out?

No dizziness and I would say no feeling of dizziness either. There are two sensations that are going on here. One is where I feel like I may black out and it is bad enough that I sit down and tuck my head between my legs. And the second is the fleeting sensation which I can only describe as it feels like my life energy just got pulled out of me for a second. Like I said, neither cases are contingent on activity. I can be sitting and it will still happen. I usually have one cup of caffeinated coffee a day in the morning. I am now cutting that out to see if that makes a difference. And like I said, it happens infrequently but when it does, it is disconcerting to say the least.

Do yoy suffer from anxiety? I often have dizzy spells that lead to panic attacks. I feel like I am going to pass out but I never do.

has cutting out caffeine made any difference?
i'm wondering if you might have some irregular heartbeats or runs of tachycardia (rapid heart rate)? either of these can be transient and can possibly cause a feeling like ready to pass out. has your doctor run an ekg? even if an ekg is normal, it is really only a "snapshot" of your cardiac activity at that point in time. irregular heartbeats or runs of tachycardia that are transient can often be detected by wearing a cardiac monitor at home for a period of time (holter monitor).

i had a friend that sometimes felt he was going to pass out...turns out he had an irregular heartbeat that only occurred when he exercised, and was ultimately detected when he wore a holter monitor. he ended up having a pacemaker put in.
