Red face Just stopped breastfeeding...OOWWW!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I ended up getting less sleep than my daughter last night (who is now 10 weeks old). I just tossed and turned, my boobs are soooo sensitive to the touch and hurt like hell! How long does this last? Last night and today have been the worst so far. I pumped my last bottle on Friday and yes, I did wein myself and the baby. I have tried a cold compress, but it didn't do much of anything!!

I read that cabbage leaves and sage tea help the milk dry up quicker but I'm wondering if this is just a wive's tale?!?

I'm not sure about the cabbage, but hot showers helped relieve some of my pain when I had it, and I know what you are saying. It is just the most miserable feeling in the world! Other than simple pain relief measures like that, there is nothing you can do. Unfortunately it will last probably for about five days to a week. When I called the doctor's office and they told me that, I thought I was going to "die". It does pass though. Just try to hang in there.

Re: Just stopped breastfeeding...OOWWW!!!

Since I'm going back on birth control pills, my ob gave me some to start mid-July since I'm going to stop pumping/bf'ing as of August. apparently they help dry you up. But it sounds like you're past the point where that would help... just thought I'd throw it out there. I've actually heard warm compresses are supposed to help, and also the cabbage leaves...

I'm really dreading this in August because I have SO much milk and such heavy letdowns. Just going 4-5 hours w/o pumping or bf'ing is quite unpleasant. Ugh. Good luck w/ it krissi! hope it gets better soon!!!

Try the cabbage leaves... it really does help with engorgement pain. Also take some ibuprofen.
Good luck!

You need to use cold ice compresses. I literally put a bag of ice on my chest. Cabbage leaves do help with engorgement pain. Use cold green cabbage leaves. Crush them with a rolling pin if the leaves don't fit well to the shape of your breasts. Or cut off the tops of the leaf veins - whatever gives you the best fit. The leaves can stay on for about 20 minutes, two or three times a day, perhaps with a cold compress over them. Warm-hot compresses are going to stimulate you to to produce milk, just like a warm shower.
I swear my pain was worse than labor. Good luck. I feel for you

I literally had an ice pack on each breast for about a week. I put them in my nursing bra so they wouldn't slip. My husband thought I was crazy! Try the ice and ibuprofen. It will get better.
