    cystoscopy--bladder and ureters

I have been having recurrent bladder infections. Two years ago I had a cystoscopy with a local anesthetic and everything was ok.
At the end of this month the doctor will do a more extensive cystoscopy by going into the ureters as well. This will require a general anesthetic.

    My questions:

Can one go through this procedure if still on antibiotics?
Can one go through this procedure if an infection is still present?

I am just getting over another UTI. I have been on and off antibiotics for over two months. The nurse said that I must be off antibiotics for at least two weeks before the cystoscopy. I asked her what to do if I again have blood in the urine or any other symptoms indicative of an infection. She said not to be concerned. Maybe that's ok for her but doesn't exactly help with the pain or the danger of an infection passing to the kidneys.
