    colonoscopy follow up at specialist

Had a polyp remove during a colonoscopy. The doctor said my colon looked good and that the polyp didn't look suspicious but he did say it was a funny colour. Yellowish, when I asked him about it, he said it could just be fatty.
I just received a letter for a follow up appointment to see him. I was under the impression that this was not going to be necessary unless the pathology report came back suspicious.
My question is, would my general practice, family doctor not give me results of the biopsy?
    does it automatically mean cancer?

Hello boubou...Yogi Bear comes to mind=) I don't know protocol in Canada, but I can tell you from experience that I have to physically see my doctor for results...even if benign. They WILL NOT call or fax results. My orthopedic doctor ordered a bone scan suspecting cancer last Fall. I went through 3 weeks of agony (unnecessary evil in my opinion) because they wouldn't give my result (no cancer, thankfully) until my appointment. I was out of my mind with worry, so HUGS that you won't "think" the worst, as it may not be so=)

Re: colonoscopy follow up at specialist

I called the scheduling dept. this morning and was told that the protocol was for the specialist to give the results regardless, even for benign.
Funny, I sorta recall being told that if benign, no call if they need to see me, they would schedule an appointment. I must say I was mildly sedated so that appointment was a bit foggy so was my brain apparently
I'll try not to think too much about it until then.
    thanks for the reply

Turns out this was not a polyp.
I was told they removed a neuroendocrine tumor.
The doctor said it looked Well defined
    Not angry
    Small
    Slow
Looks like they got it all.
He said he wants me to get an MRI and blood test just to be completely certain. In his words, to cross his t's and dot the i's. He will also consilt an oncologist for his opinion.
