Previous LEEP and another abnormal pap

Last year, My annual pap came out abnormal, so I went and got the first colposcopy. My results came in two weeks later and i had to get the LEEP procedure. Everything went well with that, except for the bleeding afterward freaked me out. I was afraid to sleep the first night. I thought I was gonna bleed to death. It is kinda funny now, but it sure wasn't then. I had another pap come back abnormal and went in today and had another colposcopy. The doctor mentioned that LEEP will be an option again, but also mentioned there would be other options. He asked me if I had kids, which I do have a six year old son and asked me how old I was. I just wanted to find other women who have went through these things and help be supportive and have some support through tough stuff. It is very scary, but we are all strong, ladies!

Re: Previous LEEP and another abnormal pap

So sorry you are dealing with this. Did he list your other options and their risks and benefits? Of course, it would seem to depend on the degree of dysplasia as determined from the colposcopy / biopsy results which I assume you are awaiting. Maybe you'll be surprised and find that the dysplasia is mild and just needs to be watched...that would certainly be a relief. And yes, since some cervical treatments can impair fertility and the ability to carry a pregnancy to term, that would also be important to consider.

I had only one abnormal pap and my gyn told me I just needed to return for another pap in 6 months (or maybe it was 4...cannot recall exact timeframe) since low grade abnormal cells oftentimes resolve on their own. He also explained that abnormal paps can be caused by inflammation such as can occur with yeast or bacterial infections so not necessarily a pre-cancerous condition. Thankfully, I never had another abnormal pap.

Since you've had abnormal cells treated previously, it's good you had a colposcopy to see what's going on. I hope it's easily treated! Let us know what you find out.
