    Unhappy pregnant abnormal pap smear

Hello I have been reading many of the posts concerning abnormal pap smears and was wondering if there is a greater chance of them being abnormal due to pregnancy. My doctors office called me and said my pap smear was abnormal with low-grade changes, basically a step below normal. She said that pregnancy could be the factor but hpv was also a possibility. At first I thought there was no way i could have hpv because i have never has a wart down there in my life and neither has my husband. But now I know there are different strains of it. Also I am infection free so that isnt what is causing my pap smear to be abnormal. The only thing that I can think of is precancerous cells. Even though the nurse said that she didnt know if they were precancerous or cancerous. I am scheduled for a colposcopy next week to find out. She said since im pregnant they will not do a biopsy. I have been losing sleep over this... some of the posts talked about mild dysplasia but didnt mention if they had the hpv virus. Are there any of you out there that have experienced this without hpv?

Certain strains of HPV can cause cervical changes (pre-cancerous cells). And you DON'T have to physically have warts "down there" in order to have HPV. It can lie dormant in your body for years and something as normal as a pregnancy can disrupt that and cause it to flair up and disrupt normal cell growth. Some people can have the disease for 15 years before something happens to them. I wouldn't worry about it until you hear from your doctor.

Hi, I am. I have moderate dysplasia. I just had the LEEP done on 8/4. I was told mine was genetics. Don't be worried until you here from your dr. The procedure is pain free.
