    Unhappy HGSIL -however biopsy inconclusive

    1)pap smear(family doctor) =came back HGSIL
    2)colposcopy + biopsy (Gyno) =came back HGSIL/High risk
The thing is even though I got 2 positives for HGSIL the biopsy came back negative the doctor said he needs to do a more invasive type biopsy and take more samples of bad cells. He said I definately have HGSIL so why does he need to do another biopsy? Is he just checking for actual cancer now. I'm new to this site and I'm scared. I'm 33 and have been trying to get pregnant for 2 1/2 years now. I'm scared of cancer and infertility. Honestly my man is having a hard time understanding whats going on, as so am I. I just keep telling him I don't have cancer. Easy to help put his mind at ease but I am freaking out.

    Liz

He probably wants to do a cone biopsy. Is that what he said?

The type of biopsy you had with your colposcopy just involved the removal of a small piece of your cervix that could be sent to the lab so they could see how severe your dysplasia was. A cone biopsy, though, takes a larger, deeper piece of cervix and the piece extends up into your cervical canal. Since they remove a large portion of your cervix, most or all of the dysplastic cells are removed, and most of the time they never come back. So, cone biopsy is a treatment method, as well as a tool for diagnosing how extensive your dysplasia is.

Hang in there sweetie,it's hard to take it all in,I know.Being worried and nervous is normal, but your doctor will take care of the problem's,and do everything to ensure that you can have children,as long as you are healthy.Be sure and talk to your doctor about your concern's,let us know how thing's go.

The doctor just told me he was going to use something like a pipe cleaner with wire brush to scrape. I 'm not sure what he was talking about.
Thank-you for your info so far

Oh, that's an endocervical canal scraping. He's taking cells from up high in your cervical canal to see if the dysplasia has spread up there where he can't see.

The scraping is like an uncomfortable pap...hurts a little bit but nothing to really worry about. Take some advil before you go and you will be fine...you can work that night.

Sorry Ilizm. I missed your followup question. I did'nt mean to ignore you. I agree with rmarie. It's uncomfortable and you might cramp some afterwards, but then you'll be fine.
