    CIN III vs CIS

I've read about them being the same and different. My most recent find is the following...which I find the helpful and think others might as well.

"If 100% of the thickness has abnormal cells on biopsy, that is classified as carcinoma in situ. If the top third of the epithelium is abnormal, that is classified as severe dysplasia. In truth, pathologists cannot always differentiate between about 70% and 100% of the thickness so that severe dysplasia and carcinoma in situ are often lumped together to bring attention to the seriousness of the lesion."

    Re: CIN III vs CIS

I've wondered about this too. My first biopsy report back in October 2005 was moderate/severe dysplasia, but it didn't say anything about CIS at all.

This last biopsy report from last month says, "Severe dysplasia/carcinoma in-situ" and below that it has, "HGIL/VAIN 3/CIS (the VAIN 3 is like CIN III, but I no longer have a cervix, so it's vaginal instead.)

Thanks for posting this info. It helps to understand the difference.
