Sometimes doctors will "put you to sleep", during a LEEP to make it more tolerable or if they are doing other procedures @ the same time that would be painful or uncomfortable for you......It seems that each doctor has his or her own approach to different procedures....

    Hopes this helps~

Robin, some doctors do the LEEP in their office under local anesthesia. Other doctors do the LEEP under general anesthesia. Sometimes a LEEP is a term used for any cone biopsy.

I had a cold knife cone biopsy under general anesthesia. At that same time my doctor did an ECC, the cone bipsy, a D&C, and a uterine biopsy.

Has your doctor told you that you need a cone biopsy? If so, what was the diagnosis? Mine was adenocarcinoma in situ (which later was changed to adenocarcinoma Ia1).
