    My medical records . . .

So I'm supposed to fax my records to the gyn/onc, but my gyno's office won't fax records. So I got copies so I could fax them . . . and then . . . I read them.

I'm not sure whether that was good idea or not. There wasn't anything shocking in them. AIS diagnosis. She did perform an ECC after the cone, which I hadn't realized. I'm assuming it was negative because she didn't mention anything, but I'll confirm at my appointment next week.

But my favorite parts are from my initial exam. I find them hilarious! Specifically, the descriptions of my body parts . . .

Next to "Vulva" she put "NEFG." At first was like, my vuvla is NEFG??? Is this good? bad? what is it? I googled it and I'm pretty sure it stands for Normal External Female Genitalia, so I guess that's good.

She also described my vagina as "rugated" which apparently means ridgy. I was like, "What?! My vaginia is ridgy?!?!" But after some more googling I also discovered that this is 100% normal and it fact, it looks like there might be cause for concern if it wasn't.

It's so weird to think that she was noticing this stuff during the exam.

She also made a note that my uterus is small. I'm going to have to ask her what's up with that.

I find it interesting that the gyn's office wouldn't forward your records to the gyn/onc. That would make me mad.

Otherwise, reading medical records is interesting. I've read a few of mine and lifted an eyebrow at how they word some things. I also was glad to note that the doctors paid attention to some of the things they paid attention to!

It's not that my doctor's office wouldn't send them. They will mail them. But the gyn/onc specifically asked me to fax them. And when I was at the office filling out paperwork to have them sent over, I didn't have the gyn/onc's address anyway, so I thought it would be easiest to have them sent to myself.

Probably has something to do with how that office handles HIPAA. I know under HIPAA there is allowance for faxing from Dr. to Specialist but there are recommended steps for verification when it comes to faxing to numbers that are not commonly used.

It is more to protect the privacy of the patient then anything else.

Ya I know - how ironic.. they are concerned about patient privacy and you are seeing a Gyn...something doesn't quite mesh!

Have any of you experienced problems getting your actual slides from place to place? I have appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday next week with two different gyn/oncs. The Wed. appt office currently has my slides and will not let me pick them up myself and take to the Tues. appt -- they say they are property of the lab that analyzed them. However, the lab said they would have no qualms releasing them to me!!!

While I'm very annoyed, I'm just going to have the slides sent to the Tues. office after my initial appt. Would have liked to have them there with me at the time, but I that's not going to happen.

The only funny thing that I saw on my medical reports was my gyns treatment letter to my fam doctor that said "Thank you for refering this 29 year old Gravida I Para II patient"......I know from my own medical training that he was refering to the fact that I have had one successful pregnancy and one that was not successful. Funny thing is that it mentions this further own down the "thank you" letter.............The only other thing that I was told by my gyn was that I was not a good candidate for vaginal hyst because mine it "too small"......I was feeling rather happy he diddnt say that I had a big vagina. I dont think anyone strives for havin a big vag!.
