    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Had to see an infectious disease specialist because of positive ppd test. He was concerned about the blood clots and referred me to a urologist. This was yesterday. Last night I saw a blood clot, as well as early this morning. I just got back from my primary doctor's appt, and she did a repeat urine test and said it looked good (excpet for I think she said protein)-no blood. I don't understand how this could be, when I saw a blood clot this morning. The 3 other urine tests I've had in the past couple months all showed blood. This doctor is telling me that what I've been seeing must not be blood clots? What on earth else could they be? I know what a blood clot looks like!
Now I don't know whether I should call the urologist and cancel the appt. or what. I don't want to go if there's no reason to-I'm the type of person that likes to know that I definitely have a reason to be going to a doctor, because it's definitely not the way I want to spend my time or money if I don't have to.
My other symptoms are improving-the joint pain especially. Still not great, but much better. X-rays showed arthritis in my knee and very end of lower back. My blood work all came back good.
This should be good news, but instead I find myself worrying that I'll be wasting my time and the urologist's time if I keep the appointment. Any advice?

Keep the appointment--if you are seeing blood clots than there are blood clots. You also had protein in the urine, that is still another finding that needs to be looked into. I also recommend getting in to see an ob/gyn. You have a strong family history, so it is definately worth at least developing a relationship with a good ob/gyn who can carefully follow you with yearly care and whenever some issues comes up, this doctor knows who you are and is aware of your history.

What is the infectious disease doctor going to do about your positive PPD test? Did he take a chest x-ray? Have you ever had a positive ppd test?

Please keep me up to date on how you are doing?

Thanks, Brenda. I can't tell you how confused and upset I was yesterday. I'll keep the appointment. If the urologist doesn't suggest it, then I'll ask for a referral to a gynecologist. Like you said, I know what a blood clot looks like and I'm definitely having them and it isn't that time of month for me and I've had them off and on (mostly on) for the past couple months, so something must be going on. I just needed reassurance that I'm not wasting my time after my primary doctor made me wonder!

I first tested positive for TB about 15 years ago, and was told I had a pretty significant reaction. Was given a chest x-ray, which came back normal. Not sure why that doctor didn't put me on treatment-he said he was going to, but before he did he decided he'd rather be a lawyer than a doctor and left the practice. I was told once you test positive, you'll always test positive.

The infectious disease specialist is 1 1/2 hrs away from where I live, so he chose to do a blood test instead of the normal skin test so that I wouldn't have to drive back for him to check the reaction. However, he did say that I would have to go back and do the skin test in the event this test result is negative, which he said is a possiblity because of the meds I'm on. My GI, who referred me to this specialist, had already sent me for a chest x-ray which came back normal. I don't have TB, I've just been exposed to it. He will put me on treatment if he thinks my results (either from the blood test or skin test if the blood test should come back negative) warrants it. Otherwise I will have a pretty significant chance of developing active TB when I'm put on Humira or similar drug.

    I'll keep you posted!

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

I've got no health insurance, but I am having symptoms of bloating, diarrhea, crampy upper abdominal pain.

I am seeing a gastroentrologist on Monday. Both my parents had colon cancer.

    I hope I don't have ovarian or colon cancer. I am 57.

Have the doctor draw a ca125 blood test. It will determine tumor ratio, however, some say it is not reliable. Good luck.
