    Red face Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Hello. For the past few months I have been experiencing the following symptoms:

    severe abdominal bloating
    inability to lose weight
    pelvic pain, sharp and sudden
    pelvic pain, crampy
pelvic pain in my groin that radiates into my left leg (this comes and goes)
    abdominal pressure/fullness/heaviness
increased abdominal size (I look 5-6 months pregnant)
    change in bowel movements
urinary frequency (having to get up at night to go)

I have an appointment scheduled with my primary care doctor for Tuesday, but of course I'm obsessing about all of this and just wanted to get some opinions.

I know I have some of the symptoms of ovarian cancer (and I'm also aware these symptoms are vague and could be other things), but one I do not have is feeling full quickly or being unable to eat. My appetite is as good as ever. Having said that, could it still be ovarian cancer? Or is that a telltale symptom?

Thank you so much for any comments and thoughts ...

I think you are wise to follow up on these symptoms, especially since you have five little ones who are depending on you. I hope that everything turns out alright, which I am sure it will.
Please write back after your appointment tomorrow.

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

I'm experiencing some of the same symptoms. I'm a 35 year old with Crohn's Disease and a family history of colon cancer. I've had rectovaginal fistulas in the past, but this just feels different to me. I've been suffering from frequent urination as well as abdominal pain, general nausea (dry heaves this morning), bloating and occasional blood clots/blood in my urine. Last night I awoke five times to go to the bathroom. It isn't really painful, but feels very strange-and the sensation is heightened after voiding my bladder and standing. The strange feeling lasts anywhere from thirty seconds to a couple minutes.
This morning I started a "diary" to record how often I'm urinating. From 8 am to 2:35 pm I've gone to the bathroom 9 times, and I've drank about 13 1/2 oz. of water during that same period. I already feel like I have to go to the bathroom again.
I feel like I have a lot of pressure in the lower abdominal area. I'm concerned, but not sure how concerned I should be or who I should see. My family doctor and gastro have both recently moved their practice, so that leaves only my colon/rectal surgeon and I'm pretty sure this isn't something I need to see him about. I don't have a gynecologist-have only been to see one when my colon/rectal surgeon sent me about four years ago when he was concerned about a possible Bartholin (sp?) cyst, which I didn't have. The gyno didn't do anything but check for the problem that my surgeon was concerned about. I've never been pregnant and, besides the Crohn's, am in otherwise good health.
Should I be concerned that it could be ovarian cancer, or does it sound like a UTI? I've been taking AVO (just in case it's an UTI), but so far it hasn't helped.

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

I bought an AVO Test kit last night and took it twice. Last night it was positive for white blood cells, this morning it was positive for both white blood cells and nitrites-so, it looks like I have an urinary tract infection. I read that it could be a complication of Crohn's. Not fun, but a relief not to have to worry that I have something like cancer! I called and made a doctor's appointment, but since I'm a new patient I can't get in until mid-October. I'll be going to an urgent care facility at noon. I'm sure I'll be prescribed antibiotics and that will be that.

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

    MissChooch,

What heartless person did you speak with at the doctors office who would not permit you to have an appointment to treat a uti???? You definately need to go to an urgent care or even the emergency room. Some emergency rooms have "fast track" sections just for your type of issue.
I know that if you keep the appointment with this new doctors office, you should definately mentioned that you were turned away from getting treatment for a condition that could very quickly have turned into a major problem. The doctors reaction will tell you whether or not this doctor is the right person for health care needs.
You may want to call your colon/rectal surgeon and ask for a referral to a primary care doctor.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Thanks for your reply, Shisslak. I went to urgent care today and yep, there's most definitely infection in my urine! I was prescribed Cipro-hopefully that works!
I will keep the Oct. 18 appt-it's hard to get a new primary doctor around here-but you're absolutely right, it's ridiculous how you're treated when you aren't feeling well and clearly need to see a doctor! I would advise everyone that is currently without a family doctor to find one before you become ill!

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Ask your doctor to do a ca125 blood draw if you continue to worry about ovarian cancer. My daughter has ovarian cancer. Not all doctors want to draw that test even if the patient is symptomatic because it's very expensive. Glad you got on cipro. It always helped me with uti's.

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Thanks for your reply, jlsp and so sorry to hear that your daughter is battling ovarian cancer!
I finished the Cipro Friday night and it only helped slightly. I took the AZO test again today, and it's still showing white blood cells in my urine, but not the nitrites. I'm having abdominal pain, and still frequent urination although not quite as bad as before taking the Cipro. Should the antibiotic have wiped out the infection by now?
I'm going to call and try to get in with a gastroenterologist next week. Should I also see a urologist? A relative is a pharmaceutical rep and is friends with a urologist that said he'd see me without a referral-should I do this or just see a gastro? Or do I need to make an appointment with a gynecologist? So confused!

If you can get into a urologist without a referral, and soon, then do it. The urologist will refer you if he/she feels you need to see other specialists. Do you have health insurance?

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Fortunately, yes I do have pretty good health insurance. I checked with my insurance and the urologist is listed on my plan, so that's good. I think I'll give his office a call on Monday.
In the meantime, this is driving me crazy! I am so uncomfortable, feeling like I have to go to the bathroom constantly and just going a very little bit at a time. The AZO Cranberry hasn't helped-didn't even turn my urine orange like everyone told me it would. The antibiotics apparently didn't help much, either. I would assume since I finished them that I'm not going to improve anymore without any further treatment, and unless I go to the ER that means I'll have to suffer until at least Monday! To top it all off, as if I'm not worried enough, my mother is convinced that something terribly wrong is going on with me! She's never reacted like this, and I've had TONS of surgeries for my Crohn's. GREAT!!!!

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Go to Walgreens or CVS or Walmart or whatever drug store you use, and tell the pharmacist you want the over-the-conter version of Peridium. I'm not sure if I spelled it right. It's called Uristat or something like that. There are other ones available too. Then you take two of those and it will relieve your urniary pain. It will also turn your pee orange. Don't get the ones that have the antibiotic in them. Be sure to call the uro doc on Monday. If you took the cipro according to the directions, and it didn't help, then your infection needs other treatment and be sure to tell the uro office on Monday how much you are suffering.

    MissChooch,

If the Cipro did not work--which is a very good antibiotic for UTI's, then I would strongly suggest going to the Emergency Room. My guess is that the type of bacteria that you have is not the type that Cirpo can handle. It may also be that you do not have a UTI but may have a flare up from your Crohns which means that you really need some IV antibiotics.
Please listen to your mother--we never overreact. You are suffering now and why suffer any further. Simple go to the Emergency Room and get the correct treatment. Make sure that they notify your gastroenterology. Your doctor will make sure that the correct things are done.
Please let me know how you are feeling.

    Re: Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

I went to see my surgeon, because he's the only doctor I could get in to see quickly. He did a urinalysis and pelvic/rectal mri. I just talked to his nurse and got the results-the mri was normal, the urinalysis was not. It showed protein, blood, white blood cells and "a bunch of other stuff" according to the nurse. My surgeon is out this week, but his partner is going to look at it this afternoon and they will call me.
I'm very nervous! I'm sure it's something to do with my Crohn's, but it's still scary! My knees have developed fluid in them now, too, and it's hard to walk. I'm afraid that I could have infection that's spreading throughout my body.

Hang in there--if you have not heard back from this doctor this afternoon, than call the office again right before it closes and remind them that you are still waiting for the doctor to return your call.
Please let me know how you are doing.
