Exclamation Need A Hysterectomy, No Insurance

I am 20 years old and around the first of January was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. I need a full hysterectomy to help improve my quality of life, and to ensure that I have a few more years ahead of me. I live in a very poor part of the country where there are few jobs and those I have worked have never provided insurance - hence I do not have it. I have contacted various organizations that can help but all need a second doctor's opinion (which I do not have the money to do), and the low-income clinics in my area require a several hundred dollar down payment on the surgery. I was wondering if there was anyone who just might happen to know of any place (especially in the Chicago area) where I might be able to have the surgery and make monthly payment arrangements? Any help would be wonderful, thank you!

Re: Need A Hysterectomy, No Insurace

I know in PA my step-mom had the same thing. She had a fibroid tumor the size of a grapefruit and was recommended to have a hyst for quality of life (pain and excessive bleeding).

Have you checked with the hospitals directly? I know when she was sent to the hospital they help filled the paper work out for her to get her surgery covered since she couldn't pay for it herself.

Also - since you've been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, have you contacted the American Cancer Society in your area (or their 800 number)? They may be able to find assistance for you for your surgery.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) also has the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). They are local offices all over the country. If they aren't able to offer assistance for treatment - they may be able to point to someone who can assist.
