    colonoscopy

My brother was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Because of this I went fora colonoscopy. My last one was in 2014 and no polyps was seen at that time. This time I had 1 polyp was seen but turned out to be benign and was told to have another colonoscopy done in 5 years. I had some problems drinking all of my bowel prep and was concerned my doctor would tell me to have the procedure redone because of this. Since he told me to have the procedure done again in 5 years I take it my colon was clean enough for him to do it. Would he have told me if it wasn't clean?

Everybody wonders if they are totally cleaned out.

    Simple answer:

You can trust that the colon was clean.

If it wasn't clean the doctor would not have continued with the scope. The scope has the ability to suck out gastro fluids and detritus if it isnt solid.

I commend you for having continual screening. My husband has it done as well.

    Re: colonoscopy

Definitely the colon was clean or it would not have been scoped. Good to know is that there are 8 different bowel preps on the market... ask your doctor if he/ she can prescribe a different one next time and see if you tolerate it better.

My father, grandparents and brother all have either had, or died from, colon cancer. I get screened every 3 years.

Stay vigilant. It does run in families.
