Scared I have colon cancer; How accruate is a CT scan for detecting Colon Cancer?

I am a 36 year old female. Background: for the last 8 months I have had right mid-quadrant pain (about a 4 out of 10 on the pain scale), which is intermittent throughout the day and not aggravated by eating or drinking. I also have had a very small amount of bright red blood visible only on the TP upon wiping (this has been going on for about 2 years - and it's usually about 10-20% of the time when I have a BM). I have had 2 abdominal Ultrasounds and 1 CT scan of the abdomen/pelvis. Nothing found except a large ovarian cyst which later resolved. I had an anal exam 2 weeks ago which revealed severe puritus ani (spelling?), fissures, an anal skin tag & a small internal hemorrhoid. My GI doc thinks occasional the bleeding is due to the fissures so gave me an RX which I have been using for about 2 weeks now. I just saw blood again today (again, a very small amount on the TP) even after using the Rx.

My GI doctor said the negative CT scan is reassuring that I don't have colon cancer - as it would have detected a large mass. She said it would NOT have detected polyps though. But, everything I have read says polyps don't cause symptoms.

Thoughts on accuracy of CT scan for detection of colon cancer?

My state is currently not doing colonoscopies due to Covid-19.

A CT scan is NOT able to detect colon cancer...sorry. Only a colonoscopy can do that.

BUT.. a fissure, is a tear and absolutely COULD cause the bleeding you describe. They will heal, but it takes time and you need to be careful that you do not tear it again.. also, hemorrhoids can cause bleeding.

It does not sound like you are seeing a GI doctor, but a primary care doctor? Correct me if I am wrong, but get yourself to a different doctor, preferably a GI doctor, and get a colonoscopy scheduled..its the ONLY way you can detect colon cancer.

I'm sure by now you have gotten an answer but I can tell you definitely no! I've been through every specialist in town and have now had three CT scans and they all got together and decided I had a colon abscess because that's what the CT scan showed. One colon surgeon was already trying to talk me into having him go in and cut my colon open and drain it the same day. Thank God I didn't allow him to do it because I have just finished my colonoscopy last week and it is definitely a tumor on my extreme lower rectum.! I hope you got a new GI doctor because let's face it, all of them are just in to collect some money and these days are too much of a hurry. Never trust a CT scan or an MRI to give you accurate data about what's going on in your colon, unfortunately the miserable painstaking colonoscopy is the only way to fill that out. Good luck.
