Wow, someone else with an ejaculation problem after colon cancer surgery. Me too. Semen does come out in my case but simply not with the power it used to. It has gotten better over time though.

My tumour was in the lower rectum so they were cutting close to the nerves that control such things. Where was your tumour?

Semen in the bladder I don't think would cause a problem after all urine flow clears it out of the urethea so it is dissolved by urine I suppose.

This is totally normal and not in any way harmful to you. If is secreted through the bladder. Nothing to worry about!

Jaydees:

I am a 31 year old male with Stage 3C Rectal Ca... had a 3cm adenocarcinoma removed from my lower rectum (2-3)cm from the anal verge, and lymph nodes removed... tell me if you don't mind discussing, did you suffer from ED for a while? and if so, did the medications work? I still suffer from ED from surgery in January, and have had no luck with Cialis or Viagra. I was wondering your thoughts if you don't mind sharing. I also cannot urinate.. need to straight cath every less than 6hrs. Again, wondering your experiences. Thanks in advance for sharing.

Thanks.

CancerDad

It is so good to hear from Jaydees! I think it has been awhile, unless I have missed some posts! You always give hope to others who are int he midst of this situation. I have heard about semen going into the bladder on ejaculation...it happens to some people too after prostate surgery. There is nothing to be concerned about there. Even though the urinary system and digestive system are separate, each one can be very easily affected by any trauma to the other. It makes us realize how interdependent our systems are.

By the way, James, my husband had his TURP and it appears to have gone well. He is home after two days and urinating well, if very often....that is normal and will level off after a time. Not as bad as we thought though. We now wait a couple of weeks for the body to settle down so he can have a scan and blood works to see how things are cancer-wise. Does this ever end??!!

Alison:

I'm sooo glad to hear about your husband! I think it's nothing but good health from here on out! It must be such a relief for him to have that darn catheter out!

In response to your comment to Jaydees-- I'm hoping he replies to me. I ressurected this post from ancient times. Retrograde ejaculation (ejaculation into the bladder) is normal-- especially after prostate surgery or rectal surgery. A lot of nerves are affected which prevent things from working in the right direction. I'm hoping Jaydees can speak to his experience with ED, as my first surgery was in January, and I am a young male... we have these concerns despite chemo/cancer/pain, etc... I guess it defines our manhood.

James (aka CancerDad)

Hi jaydees:

I had rectal surgery 6 months ago; ejaculation is perhaps half the quantity it used to be...but I am thankful. How is your situation after 3-4 years? (I noticed the posting is from 2003). How has it improved?

Hi Steve,

Jaydees is posting on another board now. You might try g**gling JayDS. I'm sorry but you can't post links on this board.
