    Melanoma Possibly Spread to Colon

Stuff I've read says this is very rare, but very poor survival rate. Melanoma was excised from forearm with Sentinal Node Biopsy (normal) 2-1/2 years ago. 3-month follow ups since. Several shave biopsies - all normal. PET scans annually since. First PET was normal

Second PET last Oct showed "activity" not believed to be malignant near intersection of small and large intestine. F/U PET scan 2 weeks ago shows more activity, and prompts us to find out for sure what it is. Stools are normal, so the fear is that the "activity" is on the outside wall of the bowel.

Next step may be to swallow a camera to confirm that the activity is not inside the colon. Regardless, the following step may be to cut out part of the colon - remove the effected tissue and biopsy it.

Anybody have experience with melanoma spread to colon in this way?
Anybdy ever have the camera endoscpoy test?

    Thanks.

    HI

I'm sorry about your problems Are they sure that it's the melanoma, though? Isn't it possible that it's a secondary cancer, not a spread of the melanoma?

    Keep us posted.

For the test they want to do, they will sedate you- twilight sleep. You won't remember a thing, most likely

Re: Melanoma Possibly Spread to Colon

Thanks for the reply. I was getting lonely. The capsul endoscopy was scrubbed because of my mechanical heart valve. There is concern that the transmission and the valve would interfere with each other. ther have been no clinical tests, so the risk is considered too great.

I'm due for another colonoscopy next week. He is going to heve to go in deeper and get into the ileum.

It is very likely that this is not melanoma. It is possible that the colonoscopy will be normal - that whatever this is is within the wall of the colonor sitting on the outside. The GE is going to be aggressive in finding it from the inside.

Hoping it is an infection or inflammation. From what I've read, any cancer is better than melanoma.

First the good news. Melanoma has not spread. I have been cancer free for 2 1/2 years.

The bad news is that I have Crohn's disease. It's a mild case, in the ileum. I'm being treated with Pantesa.

That is good to hear though I realize that you would prefer not to have Crohn's disease either. However, you say it is a mild case and can be treated. Good luck to you and continue to be a survivor!

Re: Melanoma Possibly Spread to Colon

Maz, sorry about your bowel cancer. So far, my Crohn's is mild and is not cancer. Yes, Crohn's can lead to cancer. From what I've read, Melanoma showing up on the inside is always fatal. Those are two words I don't like in the same sentence. So, I count my blessings.

Again sorry about your dx. What is your prognosis? I wish you well.
