cancer on outside of colon?

I have come back to this board to say thank you for the very supportive posts I received a few months ago. I have had bowel issues for about 4 years and today I had the all clear on my colonoscopy. However my close cousin who has terminal bowel cancer was only diagnosed through a CT scan as her cancer was on the outside and 'gripping' the colon. She was also given the all clear on her colonsocopies. Because of this she wishes to pay for me to have a CT scan (I know, a cousin in a million!!) I was wondering what the views were on this board. I have ab pain and dodgy bowel functions. Lots of nausea. Many doctors have said they can 'feel something' but the something has never been found!
Many thanks

Re: cancer on outside of colon?

Colon cancer starting on the exterior of the colon is not the norm but it has been mentioned here before, it does happen. Given a family history and the few signs you describe, not to mention that loving cousin, by all means get the CT scan.
A CT scan is a piece of cake. The only thing that may throw a wrench into your comfort would be if you suffer from severe claustophobia, otherwise you will have to undergo a bowel prep and drink a large glass of contrast or have an enema containing the contrast solution. You may have an IV as well. Not much different in these respects from a colonoscopy except that you get to remain on your back
