Re: New Here

Killer, welcome to this board. It is hard to say what will happen next until you get more information. At this point there are so many options that you could have -a resection, ostomy-temp or permanent, chemo, radiation. Keep us informed. There are many on this board who have been through this. We are here to answer your questions and give you all the support and encouragement that you need. Right now it is very frightening. Your mind is probably going in 20 directions at once. When you see the doctor, go with a family member or friend. Have them bring a note book. Write down any questions you have (you won't remember them otherwise). Have the person with you write down the answers and the treatments you will have. Too much is going on to try to remember these things, plus what they tell you and what you hear can be very different. If friends or family offer to help, take them up on the offer. They really do want to help, and you will learn that you can't do it alone. Also, listen to your body. Rest when you are tired. Don't push yourself. Right now you need to concentrate on taking care of yourself.

Re: New Here

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnoses. Depending upon weather you have colon cancer vs rectal cancer, will determine your treatment plan. I had rectal cancer, had 6 weeks radiation/chemo (to shrink the tumor), followed up with surgery, then followed up with 6 months chemo. Most people with colon cancer have surgery first, then radiation and chemo. If you have stage 1, surgery may be all that is required.

Good luck, you will beat this.
