58 Y/O fool worried

I say that because at 58 I still have not had a colonoscapy. Now
I am haveing a slight stomach ache (3 weeks) and am losing weight,
about 10 pounds in the last 2 weeks. No blood in stool (that I can see)
I am a very stressful person and even more now. Could be the cause
of the weight loss. Plus I have changed my diet. No junk food, no booze.
I was a moderate to heavy drinker. Binge type. No cancer of anykind in
family history. Dad 87 and going strong. Sister had a few polyps but were
non C. Making appointment with GI today. Just hope it isn't too late.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank You

Fool from Michigan

Re: 58 Y/O fool worried

It is never too late to have a colonoscopy and in most cases you avoid the horrible possiblities that are out there. If your diet has changed in such a fashion, it is not unheard of to drop a few pounds. I have known people to lose drastic amounts of weight in a short time just from laying off soft drinks and switching to diet drinks. The stomach ache could be anything from nerves to a slight aggravation of the stomach. For instance, I get nausea and upset stomach when I do not eat enough carbs in a meal. That is just how my body lets me know what it wants. I would try not to rely on these few things to cause me so much worry. Just try to relax on the thinking worst case scenario process and make sure to see that doctor. I am sure when everything is said and done you will be much happier and wiser for the experience.

Best Wishes,
Angelia

I agree with Angelia...a good idea to get it done. And, Angelia, my colonoscopy is on the same day as yours! Let us pray we are both OK! I already have lymphoma so I really do not want any other cancer on top of that!

Love and prayers,

Re: 58 Y/O fool worried

Dear Alison,

I am sorry to hear of your lymphoma. I have said in some other posts that my dear brother in law was just told his colon cancer had spread to a near by lymph node. His surgery is Feb. 6th so the day of my procedure I told him it would be a shorter walk to his room in the same hospital (hehe). I hope your test comes back clean as I hope mine does as well. But, it is always nice to know you are not doing something totally alone...isn't it? Good luck with yours mine is at 7 a.m. and I am sure on the 8th I will be repeating not such nice things while doing that prep =)

Best Wishes,
Angelia

Re: 58 Y/O fool worried

From what you have written colon cancer isn't the first thing that comes to mind. You are bound to lose weight if you cut out junk food and booze and your stomach pains could be any number of things.
It's always a good idea to have a colonoscopy anyway.Apart from anything else it will ease your mind.
If you are stressful you can convince yourself you have got a serious illness when it's just as likely to be nothing major. Try to relax and think positively and let us know how it all turns out,

Take Care
Lalee

Re:Thanks Lalee,good advice

Thanks Lalee, your post makes sense. I went to an Internest today
to have some blood work done and in turn reffered me to a GI. The
earliest I could get in was the 22nd of Feb. Hoping for sooner but
I have to take what's there. Sooner should have been 8 years ago.
I was wondering, is their anything at all they can tell from bloodwork
regarding "possible" colon cancer. Thank you Lalee. Hope you are well
also.
