that's a pretty broad question to ask since there are so many things to take into consideration, like a person's age, general health and success of the surgery and chemo treatment (if chemo is taken).
My husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 last year and I'm planning on him being here for many many years to come.

that depends on a lot of things....but I'm three years out from diagnosis and doing well. I was stage 3 with 8 out of 15 lymph nodes testing positive.

There really is no way of knowing how well a person will do but just to add to encouraging stories, my husband was dx stage 111C nearly five years ago, with 11 out of 18 lymph nodes involved and is doing really well today. He was treated with the traditional 5Fu/leukovorin at the time. Now more advanced meds are used for Stage 111. He went through a rough time...he is my miracle!

So far so good - almost 5 years since Stage IIIB diagnosis 2 out of 19 lymph nodes positive - no recurrence, no spread. Also treated just with 5FU and Leucovorin for 6 months, (once a week bolus 5FU).

Remember, life expectancy is not just cancer related - accidents, acute viral/bacterial illnesses, travel fatalities, etc. If we spent all our time worrying about what and when, there would no time to just be. AFter all, all we have is today - yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn't here yet.

I'm 3C with 4 lymph nodes involved. Just starting treatment soon....I hope to be here and die at 95 in a fiery crash at 95 MPH. Thant's my husband and I's joke...I've got a long road but I've got to live on and die of something else...I have been on a quest for survivor stories since my diagnosis. My doctors said they considered my surgery curative, and this is now to lower my risk factors since lymph involvement. Now I have 6mo chemo ahead with 2 months of it being chemoradiation.

I'll get through - my little boy needs his mama.

I'm so sorry you are going thru this....there is a ton of information on the web which
can sometimes be daunting...but the National Cancer Institute is a good site and also
do a search on " Cancer Coaches".
Check out all the resources in the community where you live.
    My thoughts are with you.

Gotta love all you guys and the positive attitude! Keep up the terrific messages. I am Stage 3, just started chemo and like most you all I intend to be around until age 85! (Another thirty years)

As they say in the television commercial....."there is no expiration date stamped on my body!"
