worried about rising cea's

One year out of chemo. , now my cea's are starting to raise, not by much, but have gone from 3.4 to a 6.7 and 2 months ago it's gone to a 9. I've gone thru. all the colonoscopys, and ct, have a pet scan due in 10 days. The ct scan showed 2 tiny nodules in my right lung. One Dr. (my old one) said they were nothing, My new Dr. seems very concerned right now. I'm just wondering with the raising cea's, does anyone have expierence with this, I'm just wondering if I'm up for chemo. again. My cea's were only 6.7 to start off with, now higher then before the chemo!! It's a strange cancer, it even got into my ovary, it's called mucinous adenocarcinoma. Just freaking out about it at the moment, any advice or words would be much appreciated.

Re: worried about rising cea's

A consistent pattern of rising CEAs over a period of months is a reason to be concerned that something may be going on. I see you are having testing done to try to locate the source of the increased CEA. However, CEAs can rise as much as 6 months prior to a met showing up on a CAT or PET scan. Monitoring any growth in the lung nodules will help determine if they are cancerous as would increased uptake on a PET scan. Another possible source of trouble could come from tiny mets on the lining of the stomach which may not show up at all on a scan, and would be detected during exploratory surgery.
