Kidney removal for 87 year old

Not knowing much about the severity of the procedure or the recovery involve I wanted to get anyone's thoughts on nephrectomy for my father. He has had 2 procedures to remove a tumor from the urinary tract and the bladder. The dr has been watching it for two years and has noticed a tumor in the kidney.

He has referred us to another specialist but thought that kidney removal may be a course of action to consider. My father is 87 and is very feeble. He broke his hip 2 years ago and we didn't know if he would woukd actually recover from that procedure. He had serious delirium that required hospitalization and an extended stay in a geriatric physchiatric ward. He is much better now but very weak with mild dementia.

We obviously want to do what is best but want to prepare for the road ahead. Just wondering how intrusive kidney removal is, the risks involved and what we should plan for as far as recovery.

Any insight would be helpful
