Could it be? Lung Cancer in my Right Lower Lobe

    Hi Everyone
Never thought In would post here, but here I am.
Im 53 year old female who quit smoking about 15 years ago. Cancer itself does run in my family as my mom dodged Pancreatic Cancer and she is in remission with CLL. Her father fought off Colon Cancer and Bladder Cancer.

I was sick, congested really bad cough about 2 weeks ago. Went to Urgent Care and they wanted to rule pneumonia out. Xray showed a soft tissue nodule or mass. I was shocked. They sent me STAT for a CT at a local hospital where it came back as a 1.1 x o.8 cm irregular pulmonary opacity in the medial basal segment of the right lower lobe. recommended another CT and or PET in 3 months. Malignancy cannot be excluded. That last line scared the you know what out of me.

I then was contacted by my regular doc to see a Pulminary Specialist which I did. He said he wanted to do a PET Scan in 6 weeks and if it is still their it has to be removed. He said he wanted to wait since I was sick and said there could be a chance it is pneumonia but does not like the shape of it.

I decided to get another opinion in NYC. Saw another Pulminary Specialist and she said as well she does not like the shape of it which is not normal of pneumonia, but it could be a fluke. She said if I wasn't sick when I had the CT done she would say its a very high risk of early stage lung cancer. She wants me back and have the CT Scans done at her hospital in 4-weeks. After the CT I will then go straight to her office in the hospital to review them. If the Nodule is still there then she said she is sending me straight upstairs to the surgeon. I will then need the PET as well.

Needless to say I am petrified. My daughter is getting married April 27th.
What are my chances that it is Lung Cancer?
If it is what do I expect to deal with regarding surgery and recovery?

Thanks for any input that can be given..

    Huggs to all

I am really sorry you are going through this and I can imagine how scary this is. I went through a breast cancer thing a few years ago. I remember vividly how terrifying it was.

The only advice I can give you is that you should follow your specialist's instructions and try your hardest not to worry until you know you have something to worry about. My father used to tell me if you worry now- you are expending energy which you need not expend. If it turns out to be nothing, you wasted all that energy worrying about nothing- and if the worse happens and you need to have surgery, well, don't put yourself through the worrying twice.

Easier said than done. Keep yourself busy and surrounded by people who love you. Try to distract yourself as much as possible with TV, books, work, working out, long walks or lots of sleep...whatever works for you.

Saying prayers that this is nothing...but remember, if they got it this early there is a super high chance that this is 100% curable! Thank goodness you went for the test when you did.

    Hugs and prayers!
