    Lung Cancer Screening

My husband had a lung cancer screening done because he's 60 years old and smokes. I'm freaking out. Can someone tell me what this means? Is the Lung-RADS the same as #1 in the impression?

Can someone explain this to me please?

    1. 5.8 x 2.8 cm pleural-based left lower lobe paravertebral mass. A density
was noted in this region on the 8/15/2011 x-ray and at the time ascribed to
probably represent a hiatus hernia, a reasonable conclusion based on the x-ray findings. It does not appear significantly changed since that date. As such, the finding is favored to be benign. This may represent a proteinaceous
duplication cyst or extra medullary hematopoiesis. Indolent malignancy is not
definitively excluded. Given its size, further evaluation with FDG PET/CT, MRI
with and without contrast or biopsy is recommended. Otherwise no evidence of suspicious pulmonary nodule. If upon further testing, this mass is found to be benign, recommend resuming annual low-dose chest CT in one year.

    2. COPD and emphysema.

Lung-RADS: 4B Suspicious: Findings for which additional diagnostic testing
    and/or tissue sampling is recommended.
*Category 4B; Chest CT with or without contrast, PET/CT and/or tissue sampling depending on the probability of malignancy and comorbidities. PET/CT may be used when there is a >8 mm solid component.

Recommendation: FDG PET/CT, MRI chest with and without contrast or biopsy.

    Thank you,
