Post PET Scan vs. CT scan with contrast

My MIL was all set for lung surgery on next Tuesday (she has one tumor in the left lung; numerous tests showing no spread anywhere else).

Then today, the dr called and said that a recent PET scan shows metabolic activity in the other lung. He says he now wants a CT scan with contrast (dye) on an asap basis. He said the CT scan with the PET will help him decide whether or not surgery will proceed.

I don't really understand what the CT scan can tell him that the PET scan hasn't already.....isn't the PET scan the premier scan?
