I had a clear x-ray in October and after some throat problems from acid reflux, had a cat scan (4 june) that showed "Right Hilar/mediastinal mass consistent with malignancy"
The radiologist said that the mass extends into the right middle lobe with peropheral ateleectasis AND mediastinal adenopathy.
What is maddening is that I was in the gym 3-times a week HARD until 2 weeks ago-Now I am short of breath and starting to hurt to breath.....
Not sure if this is lung cancer or some form of lymphoma --I am an ex smoker.
-I had a PT scan on Friday and will have a biopsy (bronchioscope) on Wed but won't get results till the 24th--the stress is KILLING me!!!
I had a family member who had gall bladder surgery in June of one year and the pre-op chest xray was clear. However in December of the same year, he had a grapefruit size tumor in the bronchia and left lung. It does happen. I was also told by a radiologist that a tumor has to be the size of a dime to even show up on a MRI. So tests are not infailable. I hope you receive good news on the bronchoscope.
Well I should have some results today--I have been "politley pressing" to get things reports in the hands of the right people quickly. My Doc said after the bronchiascope that :
Yes it was lunge cancer
His clinical Diagnosis was that it was NOT small cell
The PET scan did not show it has spread
Stage III or IV
His exact words were-"It is lung cancer but not a death sentence"
I meet with an Oncologist office today Florida Cancer Specialists (27 offices )to get started AND I have connections to some oflks at Memorial Sloane in New York-Both thankfully take my insurance......
I am young (51) and still in excellent health (for now) so we'll see. I have a great support network, good insurance, a great girlfriend and a great spiritual relationship with G_d that is growing everyday.
Your thoughts and prayers are most appreciated.

my wife died of small cell 3 years ago and i can tell you that xrays don't detect lung cancer masses. the CT scan should show the tumor. she had one round of chemo and then died quickly as her tumor burst her artery in the middle of the night and god took her quickly. one month from detection and she was gone.
