Help with radiotherapy pain?
My mum's had two straight weeks of radiotherapy on the tumour in her lung and she has started to get severe pains in her chest now, like heartburn. The literature all warns of such pains, along with increasing difficulty in eating, which she is also experiencing. So far, the painkillers don't seem to make much difference.

Anyone got any tips? Remedies? Advice on sleeping positions etc?

She has another five straight weeks of radiotherapy to go (5 days a week) along with chemo once a week. She doesn't handle pain well and she's already threatened to stop all treatment once about a month ago when chemo made her very sick. I have a feeling that if this chest pain gets worse, she'll refuse to have any more radiotherapy. Her choice, of course, but if there's a way of limiting the pain, it would be good to try.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with radiotherapy pain?
My aunt is going thru the same thing. She has 2 weeks left of radiation and chemo. I don't know what to do for her. I wish we could get some kind of relief for her. I wonder if the treatment is truely helping her. She is at stage 3, and afraid it has spread.

Re: Help with radiotherapy pain?
My mother went through radiation therapy and was told that drinking aloe vera juice would aid the discomfort. We tried it and although it did not completely get rid of the burning sensation it made it bareable. It isn't a very pleasant tasting beverage but can be mixed with apple juice which mom thought was much better. It can be found at any health food store and many drug stores. Good luck
