Sore Throat/Ear Infection and Oropharynx Lump

    Hi All,

I've been getting lots of recurrent sore throats and occasional what have felt like ear infections.

I never considered the C word as the sore throats were tending to come and go (but on a high frequency) rather than persist but decided to look in the mirror and noticed a visible lump in the Oropharynx area.

I've had my tonsils out when I was a youngster but this looks like a growth of some sort - I know the answer will be get it checked out but are there any benign infections that would cause something like this?

If your sore throat comes and goes, it might be that you're doing something to reinfect it. That's something you might think about.

If it's a growth, or lump, you want to know if it could be benign. The answer to that is yes. About twice as many are diagnosed as benign.

Assuming it might be an infection, why don't you try gargling with warm salt water at least once a day. Once before bedtime is good, then see how you feel in the morning.

Several things this could be. You aren't totally getting rid of the infections and they are coming back. Do you flush your sinuses? That can help. You could have an infected lymph node. The gargling and drinking warm fluids (hot tea) can help. I've had them before. If you aren't seeing an ENT, I strongly suggest it to get to the bottom of this.
