problems after whipple's surgery

I was operated in Jan 2011 for cancer in pancreas/duodenum(whipple's). The incision was just below the rib cage for 18 inches from left to right. I am having no problems with digestion part. But two things are causing problem. One is, when I breathe full, there is a pain below where the liver is.(The stitching extends to my right waste.)In effect,I cannot breath to my vital capacity. The second is,there is no sensation at places on the abdomen below the line of stitch, though the affected area has reduced now.Can someone help?
I also want to know how long does it take to rebuild the muscles of the abdomen.

Re: problems after whipple's surgery

Hi, I can only comment on the lack of sensation. The nerves take time to regenerate. It took me a year to get my feeling back in my abdominal area after I had a large dermoid removed. Now and then I would get sharp jolts that scared me but it was just the nerves waking up.
I would certainly ask the dr how long before you can really start working out. You are still only a few months out and that was a big intensive surgery. I am glad it went well for you.
Maybe someone else here can answer the other questions

Re: problems after whipple's surgery

how are you doing? Your breathing should be back to normal a month after the surgery.
