Unhappy symptoms of Prostate infection / cancer

Hello !

I had acute prostate infection 3 months ago , around that time it was a new thing for me as it happened for the first time. I had pain while passing urine and feeling that something is stuck at my back. I have taken 2 weeks off from work then and have rested. Dr has given me Cipro and advised me to take it for 15 days ( i checked that time on internet that you need a course for 4-6 weeks minimum but doc said 15 days will be enough). I get well and started life back to normal and have no problems in doing sex.

Last week i had pain and discomfort in my penis and back area once again. I feel as if something is burning and slight a bit of pain . With that i am having body aches, in legs , shoulders and was feeling feverish. I went straight to my GP and have explained him . he told me that it might be a bacterial infection came back because of not using the full course of anti biotics which i understood. He prescribed me another course of anti biotics and same day he done DRE and have press prostate gland and taken my urine sample. The urine results came as clear with no infection. Further he asked me to go for PSA test to clear confusion. I do believe that PSA test are not accurate . I am 28 years old guy.

While searching on internet and checking symptoms i came across few things that pain in thigh and legs can be caused by prostate cancer and with PSA test next week i am really very much worried. I dont have that much of knowledge and came across this thing like that before but I am very very stressed because i still have pain in my legs along with the whole back pain to shoulders and back ( lower back too )

Can you guys please tell me what it could be ? as this stress will going to kill me

My thought is that you are very young for prostate cancer - your symptoms are most probably something else. But it is not bad to have a PSA test to at least start the process of ruling it out. Try not to worry too much, get the test, and go from there..

Re: symptoms of Prostate infection / cancer

The biggest problem with the PSA test is it is not specific to prostate cancer -- it can be elevated from prostatitis or an enlarged prostate as well. Prostate cancer is almost unheard of in men your age. It is most likely a return of your prostatitis (inflamed prostate) or perhaps a urinary tract infection (UTI) anywhere from your kidneys, ureters, bladder, to your urethra, kidney or bladder stones, or a number of other things. Prostatitis and UTIs can be extremely hard to get rid of, sometimes lasting months or years, even with antibiotics. Bacteria don't always show up. Sometimes it is not caused by bacteria.

If you can, get three tests : PSA, free PSA and PCA3. The last one is a urine test where the doctor has to massage your prostate. It's important to do it last of the tests. Together, these will tell you if it is potentially prostate cancer, which, as I said, is highly unlikely. Don't have sex for two days before the tests.

If the problem persists, a urologist may want to check things out with ultrasonography, cystoscopy, or other tests.

Re: symptoms of Prostate infection / cancer

thanks for your reply guys !

I had urine test ,PSA, free PSA and PCA3 all results came negative and cleared , the doctor has prescribed me with Cipro 500 twice a day for 30 days complete course.
The symptoms were not that much ( just burning in penis and back pain) last 2 weeks and i started getting back to normal life (work etc)

Now this week i started having pain in testicles , lower abdomen at times and back pain as if its near to kidneys or something ... I know cipro list of side effects is endless but i still have slight bit of burning , pain in testicles ( discomfort ) and pain in back !

what it would be i am a bit worried now. i know its only 2 weeks i am taking cipro and i have to complete a course but just a bit curious what should i do next as this pain is a bit more ... i still am taking cipro every day twice

I have discussed it with my Gp today and he thinks the tests are fine so he asked me to take pain killers

what do you guys suggest as there might be ppl who have already suffered this ...

many thanks
