Questions about Cipro and number of samples

I've been prescribed one Cipro before my biopsy: should more be given me after the procedure or is one going to be enough to prevent infection?

How many samples should I expect to have taken...6? 12? How many is enough?

Re: Questions about Cipro and number of samples

They did 12 for me, 6 from each side. This seems to be the norm, I have read this in a number of books, including Dr Walsh's Guide. In the UK they give you one Cipro in the hospital at the time of the biopsy and then release you home with another 4 days worth. That seems to be enough. But if you see my other post they give you here an IV with a different drug , also in the rectum they administer another. Dont drink alcohol for 24 hours if they give you these others. Cipro is ok with alcohol.

You should be sent home with an antibiotic prescription. In my case it was Bactrum. I agree you will probably get 12 biopsy sticks. Maybe more if they see an area of interest. For me a topical anesthetic was applied to the rectal wall where the biopsy sticks would be made. The entire procedure was less uncomfortable than I expected. Far less painful than some local anesthetic injections I've had for dental work.
