Cipro before and after?

I've been prescribed 500 mg Cipro (1 tablet) to take before my biopsy this week. When I inquired as to whether or not Cipro would be prescribed *after* the procedure I was told "no, one is enough." True or false? Should I ask for additional Cipro; how much?

Re: Cipro before and after?

I had biopsy a few weeks ago and they gave me the one cipro. I think it is more precautionary than anything but the biopsy is a relatively quick and minimally invasive procedure. I had no issues and did not have any post-biopsy issues.

Re: Cipro before and after?

I had 3 -- one before and two after. One before is not enough. You can demand more -- it's a simple enough precaution. If they refuse, which I can't imagine, you can ask them to record that in your record, or better yet, you can walk out the door and go elsewhere. They are injecting some very nasty e. coli from your colon into your prostate every time they drive that needle in. About 5% of men get resistant infections even after taking prophyllactic antibiotics.
