Just diagnosed with early stage melanoma

I was just diagnosed with early stage melanoma. My dermatologist says that it is nothing to really worry about and that she will remove the area and things will be fine. She also says that there are around 30 more moles on my torso that must come off. With so many areas and a definite diagnosis, I am wondering ...how common is it to have melanomas removed with no further complications?

    Scared to death

    Hi
I had a serious melenoma removed oct 09 which was done by a surgeon who is a SPECIALIST in this area of medicine. if i were you i would be getting my GP to refer me to or even go there yourself to a Melenoma Clinic. All the best.

    Tonya-

I think they look at the depth of the tumor to determine staging and if it's likely to spread. If you are an early stage, chances are it did not grow deep enough to spread and if so, removal and close monitering may be all you'll need.- My brother had stage 3 melanoma. He, thankfully is alive and well 13 years later ( he had interferon therapy for 1 yr.)

    Best of luck.

Re: Just diagnosed with early stage melanoma

    Hi Tonya,

I was diagnosed with a large but early stage melanoma too, I had it removed about 5 months ago now, i had it checked every 3 months and so far i have had no signs of it coming back.

The chances of a early stage Mel streading are slim but very worrying all the same as i know.

The scare are not very attractive but a small price to pay!

I wish you well, keep in touch as it would be good to know how u get on..

    cheers

    andy
