Surely not everyone's melanoma looks like the pics online. If I ever had one anything that looked like the pics online I would be RUNNING to the derm. Surely there are people who had something that looked like a common every day mole and it ended up being cancer. The pics online have to be extreme cases, which is causing me to worry more. It's day 2 of waiting, hopefully know something by Monday. It's going to be a LONG weekend! I've spend the last 3 days googling melanomas, treatments, survival rates, etc. I know it's a bit extreme considering the dr said it was nothing to worry about, but my mole was larger than an eraser and scaly. It was one solid color, a light brown, but still I can't help put worry and this fear will not leave my mind. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I've basically forgotten I am because this has consumed my mind. I look at my other 2 children and burst into tears because I fear leaving them.

Stop worrying so much. I was diagnosed with Melanoma two years ago. One trip in the doctors office, they cut it out, one trip, got it all and two years later, multiple visits, and a few additional spots removed and no more has been found. I will not lie and tell you that the scar will heal up nicely because they do have to take a lot of skin to make sure they get it all, but all it all, it is not as bad as some of the pics they show online.

You are unfortunately right! not all melanoma look like the grotesque black lumps on google! I have had a light tan coloured patch on the back of my leg for 2 years. I have been to 3 doctors over this time that all told me its nothing to worry about. It still did not settle well with me because it looked differently to anything else I have seen. Finally got a doctor who again said it was nothing but agreed to remove it, It was melanoma! luckily for me it is stage 1, and under 1mm (just) and all I need is a wide local excision, but it could have been a lot worse! if something doesn't sit well with you go get a second, third, forth opinion.
