Dad has advanced primary lilver cancer. I have a few questions about what to expect..

The doctors told us back on the first of February that dad's cancer is advanced. His tumor is 11cm and the cancer has spread into his his arteries and his lungs. The doctors said there is nothing they can do for him, no treatment will be successful. He is 71 years old. What we are having a hard time dealing with is what to expect or what signs to look for to know that time is nearing. Right now he has lost over 50 pounds, he sleeps about 20 hours a day. Some days he is very alert when he is awake and others he seems some confused. He is experiencing no pain. I guess what I would like to know is if anyone has had a loved one pass away with liver cancer and what we as a family should expect in the days to come. We love this precious man and we do not want him to suffer, so we want to know what to expect so we can be preapred.

Thanks! Val

I am sorry to hear of your fathers illness. I do not have experience of primary liver cancer. I think it would be a good idea if you could talk to a health professional. At most clinics/hospitals there is someone there who will give you advise. There are also helplines available with most hospic based organisations so there is also help at the end of the phone.

Whether your father is at home or in hospital, there will be a care/treatment plan according to how his illness is progressing and the symptoms he is presenting.

good luck
