Re: question

I believe the answer to your question is no. A cbc with diff. that has abnormalities could lead your doctor to investigate further, but it cannot be used as a diagnostic tool for cancer.

Example...let's say your creatinine was abnormal. This could be indicative of a kidney problem, but it would not necessarily be cancer. There are many other kidney problems that can cause an abnormal creatinine.

Same thing if your red cell count was either high or low...many causes for both, among them some types of cancer, but many other causes too.

So an abnormal reading on one of the assays in a CBC rarely provides a diagnosis by itself, but would lead the doctor to investigate further.

Re: question

Here's the problem, Angela...cancer isn't just one disease. There are many, many different kinds of cancer, and each of them will present with different symptoms. Some cancers affect the blood and some don't. Some cancers will produce visible tumors, some produce internal tumors. Some cancers are very aggressive and, by the time one has symptoms it's too late; other cancers are very non-aggressive (slow growing) and can usually be detected early. Some cancers respond extremely well to treatment; some don't. Just like the common cold, which can be caused by 100's of different viruses, there is no one test and there is no one cure for cancer.

It might be helpful if you posted more information about your concerns; then perhaps someone could give you a more specific answer.

Re: question

Angela,
Panic disorder is very difficult to deal with, but it can be treated. If you find yourself obsessing about things like cancer, you need to discuss it with the doctor who is treating you for panic disorder. I would tell you not to worry about cancer, but unfortunately, that's easier said than done for someone who has panic disorder; however, it is highly unlikely that you have any kind of cancer.
