my wife died from Squamous Cell Carcinoma

hi all , i gotta share this story , my wife as wheelchair bound (spina biffda) she was getting pressure sores most of her life , untill few months back went to gp , he sent district nurses round twice a day to dress the ever growing wounds.
in november we took her in A and E they addmitted her she spent 10 days on ward in which time she had biopsey , after 10 days was told to go home or for me (husband) to take her to a specialist hospital in my own car as she needed plastic surgeon, was told this would be quickest way.
so we went home as she wasnt in a fit state to go to another hospital via car, she now went home and got worse (still had district nurses) untill 15 th dec she was rushed to same hospital by ambulance, was addmitted to ward again after 6 hrs in A and E (as told she would be on ward in 4 hrs ) got to ward after few days was told she had mrsa , when i questioed this i was told that she never had mrsa on her first visit , but went home and bought mrsa back in with her .
we was told the pressure sores turned in cancer on 5 th jan , but we found out they knew and told another hspital on the 19 th dec , when asked y the delay , they said it was a lack in communcations btw them and us .
our consulant knew nowt reg cancer , we was told we are waiting on specialist hospital to see her ,i got fed up with waiting 4 news so i asked a private hospital for an oponion , they said has she been seen by a skin doctor , i asked our consultant , she said a skin doctor was not needed but we neded a surgeon .
after all this time last tuesday 20 th jan we as told there as no hope 4 her (terminal) and thursday 22 nd she passed away.

i had a skin doctor call me 2 days ago to say how sorry he was reg the delays etc... he was the expert they got in on tues to look at her , after all that time , even he said things should have been done different .
Also he said if he was called in a month ago when they knew he could have prolonged her life with radio therpy , or in hes words , sight poss he could have helped her , sorry this is so long but its doing my head in that could have helped her.

    She leaves behind 21 yr old , 14 yr old , 10 , and 7 year old
    she was 41.

Terrible treatment you recieved and I am really sorry for your and your childrens' loss. I can't imagine how frustrating the entire situation must have been. We obviously can't depend on these people for our health, we have to try and empower ourselves and take charge of our own livelihoods. I wish you the best in your health and healing process.

Re: my wife died from Squamous Cell Carcinoma

I am so sorry for you and your children. I am also grateful for this posting. I have just been diagnoised with Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Bowen's disease. My margins were not clear and am waiting for 2nd results. I am amazed how I have had to push to get anything done. Mine is in the gential area. I believe I am finally in good hands now.

Once again I am so sorry for your loss...I hope you are somehow coping day to day. I will keep pushing for fast treatment. I will say a prayer for you and your children.

    Sincerely, Oleander
