Running low grade fever for days

I finished my second 5 day chemo treatment last saturday and I've been running a low grade fever, sore throat, for the past couple of days (37.5). NOrmally this wouldn't bother me but the last time I felt like this I ended up in the hospital with a neutrophil count of .03, stayed for a week and ended up with the removal of my port-a-cath (which turned out to be infected). Now I"ve got a PICC which I"m worried is infected too. So my fever is not high enough to go to emerg, but I still feel awful. What should I do?

Re: Running low grade fever for days

Call your oncologist or oncology nurse immediately and let them know what's going on. They may want to put you on an antibiotic immediately.

When being treated for cancer, particularly with chemotherapy, don't worry about being a "nuisance." Oncologists deal with this all the time, and most of them would rather hear from you, even if they don't think the problem needs immediate treatment, than have you not call them and end up really sick.
