Candida from long term antibiotic use for acne?

    Hey guys,
I'm new on here and suspect that I have candida. I seem to have all the symptoms. For probably close to 15 years I was on the antibiotic minocycline for acne--from age 15 to almost 30. Has anyone else had this experience with being on a long-term antibiotic? I've also had fibromyalgia since the age of 20which I've read the two could be linked. Also, can someone tell me what sort of doctor tests for candida? And what kind of a test is it? Do they test blood, stool?? Thanks for the help!

    Hi jens and welcome!

Candida is an overgrowth of bacteria, usually caused by taking antibiotics and/or ingesting too much sugar.

No test is needed to treat suspected candida, and no one needs a prescription to treat it. Candida is the name of an imbalance that naturally occurs after taking antibiotics, which are taken to kill off an overgrowth of harmful bacteria.

Candida feeds on sugar. So while treating Candida, you may want to avoid fruits or refined carbs like cereals, grain products, etc. Find a carb list and check which fruits and other foods are highest in carbs. Avoid those while treating Candia. If you do reintroduce those foods try to keep use to a minimum.

Acidolphilis is one probiotic. Candida is easily re-balanced by taking probiotics easily obtained at just about any major store in America.

    Blessings,
