Candida skin test

Hi, my doctor did a skin test today in which he injected a bit of Candida under the skin. I had a very severe reaction, extreme itching and swelling pretty quickly. Because of this, he diagnosed me with having a Candida overgrowth problem and we are undertaking the protocol to deal with that.
When I got home and started investigating this test (there is surprisingly little info on the internet), I couldn't find much info. It seems like one way the test is read is that if there is a DELAYED response, it means your immune system is compromised. A 'normal' immune system would react immediately. I'm not questioning his judgement, I'm just curious now about the details. Is it because I had such an extreme reaction that it shows my immune system went into overload, therefore I have a Candida overgrowth?
This is all in trying to deal with 20+ years of CFS symptoms, primarily extreme fatigue/brain fog, and most annoyingly, post exertional malaise. If I exercise even a little bit I get sent into a horrible blanket of fatigue for days or weeks. This is the first time going down the road of treating it as a Candida issue.
