thrush ugh !

Hi. I signed up for this website because I for the second year in a row have come down with what I thought as burning mouth syndrome as it turns out I have oral thrush. I am miserable with it because I can't eat much as it hurts too much. I also have a very bitter taste in my mouth. the only common denominator in all of this is I am getting it for the 2nd time in one year at the same time. I am thinking it may be allergy related. The nystatin is helping me and did last year as well it just takes a bit. I am taking that 4 times a day and advil to help with the burning pain. I am going to call and get an appointment with my allergist as I did last year. I also saw my ent dr. last year and he changed my GERD meds to a stronger dose but didn't want me to remain on it so I ended up going off of it and another factor is stress. high stress level especially this past year. I had basic allergy testing last year and nothing showed up. I did changes my toothpaste to no sls. I also last year had trouble using basic products that ive used for 40 plus years. I felt suffocated by smells with these products. I find that sooo odd but ive heard a person can get an allergy at anytime in their life. so this is my dilemma I will see how the week long allergy testing goes and see what my ent has to say my throat was very irritated with this last year in my throat and it is irritated this time as well and the heartburn is kinda bad. the ent dr looked down my throught with a scope that goes in your nose and down the back of the throat. its not that bad and is quick.

Re: thrush ugh !

Hi there. Sounds miserable. Have you seen a GI doctor? A GI doctor might be able to better help you with your GERD symptoms...getting thrush is not unusual, but can often be the result of the wrong GERD treatment. I know that my GI doctor is constantly telling me about new meds and many of them do not have this symptom. You might want to talk to your ENT about a GI referral just to see if you can get a different perspective on the GERD, since this is a digestive disorder (a GI specialist is better equipped to help than an ENT).
