I was in a bad car accident a few years ago, that left me with permanent nerve damage in my dominant right hand. (that's a whole nother story!) Because I don't have a lot of feeling and function in that hand, I have overused my left hand 2 years ago, causing moderate to severe carpal tunnel.
After dealing with the severe pain throughout my entire arm from it, I got surgery 6 months later. After a few more months of pain, it eventually got better.
Fast forward to this past August where the extreme pain returned in my left arm. Knowing it was nerve pain, and because my surgeon said after surgery "If you have pain any more, it's not carpal tunnel, because I took care of it", I thought it had to be something else. I went to my gen. practice doctor, who referred me to a neurologist. During an EMG, he said I have carpal tunnel. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN? I ALREADY HAD THE SURGERY!!! He didn't have anything to say other than possibly surgery didn't do the whole job.
OK, so if carpal tunnel surgery requires cutting the ligament allowing the median nerve to be freed up, how can surgery be botched? How do I have carpal tunnel again?
Anyone out there with this sort of problem?
Thanks.
