    Driving with startle reflex?

My 16th birthday is coming soon, and just like every other teen.. of course, I want to get my license. I know I would need hand controls to drive, preferably the ones that are just a button on the steering wheel for gas and a button for break, because I have very little function in my right hand. My dad is all for me driving, and will do anything to make it possible, but my mom seems to think my startle reflex is going to be a major limitation. while i do tend to get a little jerky at loud noises, it is not nearly as bad as it used to be because I am on baclofen. besides, it is usually just my legs that jerk, and if i am driving with my hands, i dont think it will affect much. i am going to get an adaptive driving evaluation soon, where they test your coordination, responses, ect. so that should answer a lot of questions, but has anyone experienced issues with startle reflex and driving?

    thanks.

    Dear Squeaky027:
I read your post and I know it's off the subject and I hope you don't mind me asking you this, but, my 4 year old son has CP, he's spastic diplegia AND he also has the startle reflux. He startles when there's a loud noise, really bad and I would like to know, when you are startled by a loud noise and your body jerks, is this painful for you? Also as you got older, did it get less intense? I"m sorry to get off the subject.
    Thanks and take
    Goulais
