3 yr old son - SDR surgery?

I just joined this board. I have a 3 year old son with spastic diplegia who doesn't walk yet. I am researching SDR surgery. I see that Dr. Park is highly recommended but it's a little far. I live in Baltimore. I have another 15 month old son and am 5 months pregnant due in May. So, life is already pretty full. I would appreciate any advice or comments from anyone who's had a child go through the surgery.

Thanks so much!

Re: 3 yr old son - SDR surgery?

My daughter had SDR with Dr Park and I think it is the best thing that happened to her. She is much more comfortable and can do much more now. If you have any questions, let me know.

Re: 3 yr old son - SDR surgery?

My daughter has spastic triplegia, so both legs are obviously involved. We did not do any surgery on her until she was about 12, then did a couple of small tendon releases in the back of her knees and in the groin area. I am not familiar with the surgery you are speaking of, but operating at such a young age may make matters worse later due to scar tissue. We eventually had good success with xanaflex for her spasticity. She still cannot walk, but is much more comfortable and it is easier to take care of her.
